Litter Please.

This piece resulted from a university project in which we were tasked to create artworks representing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities. I chose to focus on the subtopic of waste management and litter in the city of London. I found that despite there being an adequate amount of bins, people still littered, even within 10 paces of a bin. I wanted to create a piece that would draw attention to this issue and address that fact that if we want to live more sustainably, the most basic first step is instilling the need to properly throw away rubbish as common sense.

This led me to create a multi-medium, projection display featuring videos of different bins around London with no one actually using or interacting with the bins. I arranged these in a grid-like fashion,

inspired by the works of Bernd and Hilla Becher. At the bottom of the page is a list of all the litter I found within 10 paces of these bins. I displayed this as a stack of flyers with one featuring the moving

images, similar to the many flyers that are littered across London.

This was displayed at Club Silly in Brixton for a one-night exhibition.

A Chosen
Performance

This collection is inspired by the idea of body glosses and Erving Goffman's notion that identity is a performed character that we create through learned practices. The photos feature my mother and me and symbolize the struggle between conforming to the socially acceptable, 'lady-like' image taught to all women, and the desire to live and present ourselves in exactly the way we want to. The photos are a journey of understanding and accepting our identities, both from a daughter's point of view and a mothers'.

This collection was showcased in London on Villiers Street by DS.Emotion's Canvas initiative. DS.Emotion is an award-winning branding agency and their Canvas initiative seeks to showcase and connect students with the public.

REACT

This is a collection that I am currently working on in my free time. I am fascinated by the way street performers are able to captivate people of varying age, races and genders so easily. I am not sure where this project will take me but I am here for the ride.
